Interior Redesign FAQ's

Interior redesign uses your existing furnishings and accessories to create wonderful new living spaces.

What is interior redesign?

Interior redesign is the art of transforming your living spaces while using the furniture, art, and accessories you already own.   Interior redesigners are trained in the space design principles of scale, proportion, line, balance, harmony, and rhythm, and can present  your treasures in their best light.  The interior redesign results can be achieved in just one day, and you don’t have to buy anything new at all.

Why should I hire an interior redesigner?

  • Your studio apartment can be redesigned to create more spaceYou know your room can look better, but you just aren’t sure what to do, and you don’t want to pay an interior designer to change everything.
  • You just moved to a new home, and don’t have the time, energy, and/or talent to arrange everything so that it looks great.
  • You are selling your home and want it to show at its best so that you can get a top selling price.
  • Your life is in transition: you are downsizing, upsizing, combining households, or moving to assisted living, and you need help deciding what to move and where to put it.
  • You are a realtor with a property that is not moving, or you want to give a gift of a redesigner’s services to a buyer you have found a home for.

A redesign in your bedroom can eliminate clutter and create an inviting cozy spaceIf you would like to see an actual redesign, watch HGTV’s “Decorating Cents”.   Log onto www.HGTV.com to find out when the 2000, 2100, and 2200, and 2300 series episodes are being shown.  These episodes have redesign segments as the last segment – in earlier series the redesign segments were less regular. You can also see redesign on HGTV's "FreeStyle".

How will the redesign process work?

First, we’ll discuss your style, how you want to live in your space, what you like and dislike about your room, and what you want to achieve for your room. Then we will begin the redesign by emptying the room of its contents and determining the room’s focal point. We will then (with your permission of course) “shop” your home for items that will enhance the transformation of your room. At this point we will use your furniture, lighting, art, and accessories to redesign your room, creating balance and harmony, and ultimately the inviting, functional, and beautiful room you are looking for.

Redesign your living room into a soft and inviting gathering placeHow long does it take to redesign a room?

Typically, it takes 3-5 hours to redesign one room.

How much does it cost?

As little as $300 to redesign the average room (that’s less than the cost of a chair!)  You’ll love the results, and won’t believe it took you so long to contact an interior redesigner.

Do you work alone?

It really depends on the job.  If you have many accessories, or if there are some very heavy pieces, an assistant may be needed for all or part of the time.  The fee for an assistant is $20 an hour. Of course, you may choose to work as the assistant if you are able, and save the extra money.

Redesign uses your accessories to create ambianceWhat happens if something breaks?

You can rest assured that we’ll be as careful with your treasures as we are with our own!  In the event that something does happen, Done in a Day Decorating is fully insured for damage or breakage.

Do I need to be home durning the redesign?

No.  Some people prefer not to be: this way they can experience the surprise of seeing the room after it is fully redesigned. Others want to be involved in the fun, and act as the redesign assistant.  The decision is really up to you!

What if I hate what you do?

We guarantee that you will love the room. Some people have a harder time than others with change, and they may need time to adjust to it.  Therefore, if after a week of living in the newly redesigned space you decide you have some concerns, then we will return and tweak things for you.
